Short-Term Running Goals: Compete in another Half Marathon and get a decent time - under 1:20 would be great! Step up to 5 days a week running.
Long-Term Running Goals: Keep running with as little injury as possible and achieve the sub-3 dream (Accomplished!!! 2010). Next dream is to improve my half-marathon and 10km time.
Personal:
I am 40 years old and married with two young children. I have been training on and off for the last 10 years. I have been training three times a week for the most part but hoping to step that up to 5-times a week and see if I can avoid injuries, although 3 seems to be about as much as I can manage with work and family. "Run less, run faster" is my running bible that has helped my do just that. 1 steady, 1 quick and 1 long seems to keep my fast enough for my input.

| Last long run before the marathon. Started out at 6 after a quick bowl of porridge. 20miles at around 7.15-7-30
I took an 11-mile break and fuelled up on a banana and somedrink before the 2nd leg. My right foo hurt a little towards the end but not so badly that I had to stop. I was temted to do a couple of more miles but felt that I should not push it so soon after a week of being out.

| 8 x 800 m at 2:48-2:42 . A cold and rainy evening but I felt good and he pace was not too hard although enough to make me feel that I was working. I had to stop half was for a crap though which is really annoying. That could make an interesting side topic on the discussion forum I think : Tell us about your weirdest craps. No, no no, don't go there! |

| 8 miles at 6. 45 felt easy and only a little pain in my foot but not enough to require stopping. |

| Took part in a race but I did not do any fast running which was incredibly hard when people pass you even though you feel you are going much slower than you would like. Finish tim3 was 1:29:38 The first mile was in 6.05 and then a 6.20 so i put the brakes on until 6.40, then threw in some slow 7.10 miles but it felt too slow so I took it to a comfortable 6.49 pace which is about what you need for a sub-3 marathon. I am wondering if I should chase the dream now or leave it until I hav done the Tokyo M. when I will be able to say how easy or difficult it will be. A 7:10 pace (3:07) is very doable but a 7 min. pace would be easy for 18 miles then it would be on unknown territory. Oh the indecision.

Very winy first and 6th mile, but it was a nice run to get in after my half-marathon pcerun. Felt great today as I came back from the hospital with an all clear from my throat box problem.

| Marathon pace training. kept constant around 6.55- 7:03 apart from 1 mile when a guy tried to follow me on the last part, I tried to let him pass but he just hovered for half a mile, then he pushed past me so I stuck with him and he pushed faster at about 6.30 pace so I thought I may as well go with him, but he stopped after a 10 second sprint - wierd! That caused my 9th mile to go to 6.35.

First ever Marathon, I started it after lots of months preparation, training 3 times a week. The night before was the worst nights sleep I can remember, seing every hour until 5 when I officially "woke up". By the time I got to the race though I was pretty focused. My start position was in the 'B' group about 200 m from the start and it took 2 minutes to get through to the start as well as 5km to get past all the slow pack . I went through the 1/2 way in 1:34 which was slower than I had hoped but I was conserving myself for the secong half. From about mile 16 I put my foot down and even through in a 6.15, and a few 6.30 miles, I was totally in control. The last 10 km were running against a ferocious wind and up 3 bridges, there was no respite. In retrpospect I should have gone out faster for my first half and have started further up the field, but it was a perfect first marathon as far as I am concerned. My legs hurt for the first five days (only thighs) but one week later I feel great. Now my question is when can I start training properly again. I would like to do some more training the next time (5 days a week).

| First run since the big one. Took out my new Nike Free 5.0 for a warm up run in Osaka. Felt very light and intuitive to run in. Looking forward to introducing these shoes to a proper training run one day. For now though I shal use them as a warm down shoe until I get more confidence. |

| Lots of hill running around Yakushigaoka, prob.3 miles in total up some very steep inclines. Feel a little heavy legged but no aches or pains at all. |
